Located within Legion Memorial Park in Hollidaysburg, Pa., The Discovery Garden offers something for everyone. It is a place for people of all ages to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. The Discovery Garden has created horticultural rehabilitation programs that will help people with disabilities be able to participate and enjoy the many plants and herbs within the gardens. The Discovery Garden has grown to encompass seven theme gardens. Each theme is designed to provide both natural beauty and educational information about flowers, plants, and ecology.
Cottage Garden; This charming garden contains a combination of flowers and herbs, like snap dragons, daisies and sunflowers.
Time Garden; This garden’s centerpiece is a 25-foot horizontal sundial, the only one of its size and kind on the east coast. The Time Garden includes flowers with time-related names like; day lilies, evening primrose, morning glories, thyme, autumn joy sedum, sunflowers, and moonflowers.
Sensory Garden; This garden was designed for individuals with visual or physical impairments. The garden contains plants like lambs ear, dill, heliotrope, garlic chives, mints, and sages. These plants are easy to distinguish because of thier unusual textures and distinctive fragrances.
Children’s Garden; Children love exploring the many adventures of this garden. The garden includes; a potting shed with interactive learning boards, a rock garden bridge, a rabbit hole tunnel, and rainbow garden.
Butterfly Garden; Visitors to this garden will get the opportunity to view many kinds of butterflies from the Blair County area.
Planting Garden; This garden allows individuals with disabilities and school groups the ability to plant seedlings and learn about plants and flowers. Several of the beds are maintained by the Skills Horticulture Therapy Program.
Evergreen Garden; This garden demonstrates the unique forms and textures of various evergreens. Some of the plants include; a Weeping Hemlock, a Dwarf Blue Spruce, and Weeping Blue Atlas Cedar.
